SCCA and Goodwill Encourage High School Students: Work Hard to Play Hard

By MEAGHAN CARABELLO

On February 27th, students at two Denver high schools learned what it means to work in the fast lane. Goodwill Industries of Denver partnered with SCCA and High Plains Raceway to show students first-hand all about careers in the racing industry. Volunteers from SCCA, High Plains Raceway and the Porsche Club shared their own experiences with the North and West High classes on how they got started in the racing business and discussed what it takes to make your passion your career. The students were thoroughly engaged, asking many interesting questions.

The content wasn’t merely discussed in the classroom… A real formula race car was outside of the school for students to learn about and view, thanks to Front Range Motor Sports. This “auto-themed” career panel in the classroom is part of Goodwill’s School to Work curriculum that helps over 20,000 at-risk youth in 29 different high schools across the metro area.

If you are interested in volunteering for future auto career panels, please contact Sonia Flores at 303-650-7746 or sflores@goodwilldenver.org
