Colorado Rallycross kicked off the 2009 season with an awards banquet at the Pegasus Restaurant in Castle Rock on Saturday, February 28th. There was good turnout to accept the trophies handed out and to hear some exciting news about the upcoming season and the state of Rallycross in Colorado.
We are very proud to announce that the Colorado Rallycross program won the coveted “SCCA Program of the Year” award for the 2008 season. With an annual attendance growth of 30% per year over the last two years, and eleven solid, well-organized events in 2008, CORX proved to be the most exciting and growth-oriented Rallycross program in the nation. We are proud to be recognized for this prestigious award and have every one of our faithful volunteers to thank for pulling together such a successful season. This achievement only spurs us on to improving the quality of the racing experience as well as increasing attendance for 2009. We have some great places to race and some excellent people to race with here in Colorado, and this year is an even greater chance to shine.
We are also very pleased to announce that the 2009 SCCA Rallycross National Championship race will be held in Fountain, Colorado on October 9-11. Drivers from all corners of the nation will be on hand to compete for National Rallycross Titles. Attendance is expected to be high, and the standard has been set for our program to pull out all stops and make this year’s Championship race the best one yet.
Colorado Rallycross will be on hand for the Denver International Auto Show, April 1-5 at the Colorado Convention Center in downtown Denver. Stop by our booth to talk to our representatives and check out a few CORX cars that will be on display.
We have a new website! After years of struggling with old content and broken links, we finally have a well-designed site that works! Check it out for the 2009 event calendar, event registration, rulebook, pictures and more. Just point your browser to www.coloradorallycross.org.
Our “Bring a Friend, Race for Free” program will continue for the 2009 season. If you can bring a new driver out to an event, your registration fees will be waived. The program proved a success last year in bringing out new faces, and we are looking for even more growth this year.
A new change in driver/passenger status has been mandated by the SCCA for all Rallycross programs. Both drivers and passengers on course in an SCCA Rallycross must now be SCCA members. Temporary daily memberships are available for an extra $15 for drivers. Passengers will be required to fill out a temporary membership form, but will not need to pay any fees.
Finally, the 2009 season schedule has been finalized. You can see the dates and locations at our website. There will be ten events held at four different venues around the state. There are ongoing efforts to find even more sites for us to race, so if you have any suggestions for us to check out, please contact Series Chairman Ken Cashion via email at mrmodular@msn.com. We’re looking for five acres or more of hard-packed gravel, preferably in a non-residential area.
We look forward to seeing you come race with us in 2009!
